Ecstasy of Gold: Competitor Rundown Part 1 IP: 24.254.113.51 Posted on 8/27/2009 at 07:16:36 PM by Ultimate Wrestling News and Rumors The first annual Ecstasy of Gold Tournament will be the first of many major shows for Ultimate Wrestling. The whole concept of the Ecstasy of Gold tournament is to have a yearly tournament based strictly on competition and having title ramifications for the winner. Each year, a different championship will be the focus. With the tag belts being stripped from The Ultimate Legends, it was a perfect fit to have the first Ecstasy of Gold Tournament showcase the most sought after tag team championship in the territory. On September 12th, 2009, sixteen men will throw their names into the lethal lottery for an opportunity to win the gold. This column will be designed to give a breakdown on each of the sixteen competitors. It will be based on past experiences in the tag division, win/loss record and the ability to adapt to any situation. “Black Sheep” Bobby Doll Title History: Two time Ultimate Wrestling Tag Team Champion Two time PWA Heavyweight Champion Three time PWA Tag Team Champion Bobby Doll might be one of the most decorated wrestlers to be in the Ecstasy of Gold tournament. Doll is a tremendous singles wrestler but has also tagged with some of the best. Bobby Doll has tagged with such greats as Yokozuna, Umaga, Marty Jannetty, “Road Dogg” Jesse James and Scott Armstrong. Bobby and his “Blacksheep” partner, Danny Roland, held the PWA Tag Team Title on three separate occasions. Doll has proven that he can work with just about anyone and is no stranger to tag team situations. However, Bobby Doll has taken a much darker path lately. Doll who once demanded respect from competitors is not taking respect. He’s also taking careers. Doll may have the ability to win gold on September 12th, but keep in mind, the winner of this tournament will have three matches in one night. Is Bobby Doll physically able to take on some of the younger wrestlers in Ultimate Wrestling? Doll has a long history of knee and neck problems. Bobby Doll has made history in the Santa Rosa County Auditorium before, will lighting strike twice for Bobby Doll? It depends on which Bobby Doll shows up. The historically decorated Doll or the smug, violent Doll we’ve seen in the past few weeks. Chance of winning based on percent: 85% “The Feature” Carlos D’Angelo Title History Current Ultimate Wrestling X-Factor Champion AWF Chipley Television Champion AWF Chipley Tag Team Champion Carlos D’Angelo broke into the business as a tag wrestler. Formerly known as Jester McKain, Carlos had trouble breaking out of the “Mobile Crew” of wresters consisting of Aeon Flexx, Roman McKain, Ryan Fury and Rikki Rocket. Carlos went from promotion to promotion usually getting lost in the fold and never given a shot to become a strong singles competitor. Carlos came into Ultimate Wrestling tagging with a wrestler known as Nick Vortex (Now known as Nick Virtue, the current Heavyweight Champion). The two had little to no impact as a tag team, but they split and both blossomed as singles wrestlers. Carlos is currently going into Ecstasy of Gold as the X-Factor Champion (at the time of this writing). Carlos, although not a strong tag wrestler, has proven he can adapt and make quick changes. Carlos D’Angelo is also one of the most cheered wrestlers on the roster and has the support of the Ultimate Wrestling fans. Look for Carlos to go far in Ecstasy of Gold. Chance of winning basd on percent: 70% “Pure” Doug Pitt Title History: Ultimate Wrestling Rookie of the Year 2008 Current NHW Cruiserweight Champion “Pure” Doug Pitt, much like his nickname says, is a pure athlete. Doug spent all of his high school as a amateur wrestler, picking up medals and pinning shoulders to the mat all over Europe. Pitt now calls the Gulf Coast Region his home and wants to step up and test his skills in the world of Professional Wrestling. Doug is one of the first graduates of the Ultimate Wrestling training facility and immediately impressed peers and fans with his wresting style, his tenacity and his heart. Doug has done well outside of his “Home Promotion” winning cruiserweight titles in two separate promotions, but he hasn’t gotten into the title hunt as of yet in Ultimate. Ecstasy of Gold is a huge opportunity for Doug to take this ball and run with it. Even though Doug is a tremendous athlete, his lack of experience may be his down fall. Chance of winning based on percent: 45% The Black Wolf Title History N/A Little is known about the wrestler who calls himself The Black Wolf. What is known, is that he has no wins in Ultimate Wrestling, but has been in the ring with some of the best. The Black Wolf certainly has heart and a desire to win, but his win/loss record certainly doesn’t make him a favorite in this very important one night tournament.
